Hello Everyone!! As most of you can probably figure out, I am talking about the New York Yankees & the New York Football Giants. The two teams I have rooted for since I was a little boy, so we are talking 60 + years, wow crazy. I know some of you are saying, you are spoiled the Giants have been in 5 Super Bowls and have won 4 of them, the Yankees have been in 40 World Series and have won 27 of them. That's all true, but it's also "History" meaning the Giants last deep Playoff Run was a victory in Super Bowl 46, which was February 5, 2012, and the Yankees have had a few "Deep Postseason Runs" recently, but there last World Series Appearance was November 4, 2009 where they defeated the Phillies 4 games to 2.
The Point I am trying to make here is it's been a while for both Franchises, too long as a "Spoiled Fan". I get you can't go to the World Series or the Super Bowl every year, I get that. But at least show your fan base you are Making an attempt to get to that next level.
Here we are, the World Series is over, now it's the "Off Season" the time where teams all around MLB try to improve themselves, through trades, free agency whatever works . That sends me back to the Off season between the 2008 & 2009 Seasons, when the Yankees were "All In" as far as Improving the Team. They had just come off a very disappointing 2008 season, it was the last season for the Old Yankee Stadium, they did not qualify for the Postseason, a huge disappointment, sound familiar??? In that Off Season, they signed CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira & AJ Burnett and all 3 helped the Yankees win their 27th World Series. And that will be 15 years without even a World Series appearance.
Now we are in this Off Season after the team went a mediocre 82-80 & did not qualify for the Postseason. What Moves will they make, will they go after Cody Bellinger a left handed bat who would be perfect for Yankee Stadium, will they go after the Japanese Pitcher Yamamoto who would solidify the Top of the rotation with Cole & him, Now are these pipe dreams on my part? This is not 2008-2009, this is 2023-2024,it seems so much has changed in the Yankee Universe since than. Mr Steinbrenner has made some big moves Cole being the Best one in a while in my opinion. Trading for Giancarlo Stanton at the time seemed to be a good move, and Yes he has had some good seasons & good Postseasons, But this past season was horrible is he injured, at the end of his career??? So as we enter the Free Agent/ Trade Period lets see if the "Culture" of the Proud Franchise New York Yankees has changed?? Believe me going 82-80 is unacceptable for the Yankees, if I sound like a Spoiled Brat, so be it. I haven't even mentioned Brian Cashman who has been the General manager for 25 years, his time should have passed in the last few years, why he is still there I have no idea?? And don't even get me started about the Manager Aaron Boone, he got the job because he's a smart Man, he probably impressed Mr. Steinbrenner & Mr. Cashman in his interview. And the other reason he was hired he hit a Huge Postseason Home Run in 2003 beating the Hated Red Sox in the ALCS. Let's see what happens this off season as far as Moves the team makes to improve from last years horrible season?? Maybe Yankee Fans need to stop buying tickets and stop filling the Stadium??? We shall see??
Now let's talk about the New York Football Giants, so much to talk about. I am also A New York Ranger Fan, but that will be for another Blog, considering they have won 2 Stanley Cups since 1940, that's 83 years.
Okay now to the New York Football Giants, A Very Proud Franchise as well, and yes they won four NFL Championships, 1927, 1934, 1938 & 1956 and four Super Bowls, 1987, 1991, 2008 & 2012, very impressive. But once again "what have you done for me lately"? They did make the playoffs last year & even won a playoff game, But from 2017- 2021, they were tied with the Jets for the worst record in the NFL during that span, and in 2016 they did make the playoffs, but between November 6 2013 and November 6, 2023 the Giants record is 61-101-1, pretty dismal to say the least.
The Point of my Blog is The Last 10+ Years for these Franchises has been absolutely Horrible, just an embarrassment I don't want to hear well the Yankees came within one win from the World Series in 2017, true, But they still did not get to the "Promised Land",is it Ownership, is Mr.Steinbrenner just worried about the $$$?? As I said earlier it's time for Brian Cashman to be gone, But Mr. Steinbrenner gave him an extension, there's part of your problem. As long as the Yankees continue to draw 3 Million+ fans what's going to change??? I would like to hear comments about my opinion on the Yankees, please, because 2009 is a long time ago since they last appeared in the World Series.
Now let's dissect the New York Football Giants?? Okay as I said earlier in the blog the Giants have had success, more so than many franchises in the NFL. But why have the last 10 years been so horrible overall that is, sprinkled in with some success? I ask the question is "Young" Mr. Mara not like Wellington, similar to the Steinbrenner situation, Father passes Son takes over, now in defense of Mr. Mara he does only own 50% of the team, which is $3.4 Billion, half of the $ 6.8 Billion the Franchise is worth. Is he & Mr. Tisch the owner of the other 50% only worried about the $$?? Let's face it some of the choices for coaches over the last few years were very questionable to say the least, never mind the Gettleman regime the teams record while he was General Manager was 19-46. We want to forget that Era,there scouting, their player personnel department in my opinion was awful, I get teams have peaks and valleys, But when the New York Football Giants are down, they are really down & seem to stay down for a long period of time, I do not understand it. Let's face it we are talking about Two of the most Passionate Fan bases in all of Sports We are NOT Happy. We are in the second year of the Joe Schoen/ Brian Daboll Era lets see how that goes? The first year was good, this year not so much,as I would say we shall see?? Okay everyone that's my "Sports Blog" for now, we will be working on a "Geopolitical" Blog next, there is plenty to talk about in that one.
Stay Safe Everyone, Happy Veteran's Day to all & Thank You to all who have and are Serving this Great Country of ours!! God Bless You All & God Bless America! And God Bless The Souls of those who passed away protecting the Freedom of this country.
